The sights and sounds of the 2005 and 2008 Grand Slams will never be forgotten as Gareth Thomas and Michael Owen (2005) and Ryan Jones (2008) accepted the coveted RBS Six Nations Trophy after their epic final day wins over Ireland and France respectively, and Jones Wales's first Triple Crown Trophy in 2008 at Croke Park. There were capacity crowds inside the Millennium Stadium on both occasions and 30,000 more outside Cardiff City Hall watching the game on a big screen in 2005. They were days that will never be forgotten – days that a nation rejoiced in a new set of heroes as rugby underlined its status as Wales’s national sport.
In 2008, as the nation celebrates Wales's current success, the WRU looks to build the platform for the future of rugby, not only for its own teams, but for the stars of the global game as Wales looks forward to playing host to the inaugural IRB Junior World Championship.
