Lovespoon
Lovespoon – King/Wake
The eldest known lovespoon is in the Welsh Folk Museum. It is a beautifully crafted piece dated, 1667

I can not read or write my love so here I toil instead

Thinking of your sweet young self as you lie in your bed

Being sick with love is new to me, no potion can reclaim

My life before I met thee, before I knew your name.

I love you little lady, I will forever pine

Until by hook or crook in truth that I can make you mine.

It won’t be words nor narrative nor monies that you’ll see

But this wood piece when ended I will dedicate to thee.

Tis a lonely toil I undertake like many gone before

The craft I have is all I have, to show I love you more,

So in 1667 I will date my life to thee.

A spoon to you with love dear heart for all your friends to see.

See you and I are trapped in there, the cage will be our nest.

Two souls in wood for evermore till we’re laid down to rest.

The Spoon of Love is strong and true, the bond always to be

A symbol of my love for you and of your love for me
