Dragon Strings are a newly formed 14 piece electric string ensemble based in Neath, South Wales. We consist of 6 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, bass (all in a groovy blue colour!), drum kit, keyboards and an MD; and are a group of friends many of whom are instrumental teachers in schools throughout West Glamorgan. We are classically trained but keen to be involved in something a little different! The inspiration for the group is to encourage children to take part in musical activities either through listening or participation.......and for all of us to have fun! The music we perform is therefore eclectic to say the least; Mozart, Bizet, Handel and Karl Jenkins rub shoulders with The Simpsons, Austin Powers, The Wizard of Oz and Batman (not to mention Smoke on the Water, Stairway to Heaven and The Final Countdown with full-on electric guitar FX!). 60+ children from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Castell Nedd are involved in this project, and had a wonderful time singing and recording the song.
We are performing the song live at our Christmas concert in St. David's Church, Neath at 7pm Sunday 14th December 2008. Tickets £5 (£3 concessions) available on the door or from the Welsh stall (Pethau Cymreig), Neath Market. You may reserve them by leaving your name/no. of tickets using the online contact form at www.dragonstrings.co.uk or by phoning 01792 812426 (collect and pay at the concert). We are also appearing in free Children's Events at Borders (Swansea) 2-3pm Saturday 29th November and at Swansea Central Library 2-3pm Saturday 13th December.

The CD package includes an English and a Welsh version of the song plus backing track. In addition there is a bilingual story booklet with cool graphics which sets the scene for the song and tells how the dragons live far away on a planet called Draigland and helped Santa to fly the sleigh before Rudolph and his friends were born. Lyrics for both versions are included and there is also a link to download free sheet music of the schools version which has been specially orchestrated to sound exactly like the original but only involves voice, piano and sleigh bells...........ideal for primary schools.
